It is estimated that one in four residents in Alameda County is experiencing or at-risk of hunger, with BIPOC communities suffering the greatest disparity. Beyond that, the traditional resources that do exist are often inaccessible and less than dignified. At the moment we mainly focus on food recovery and waste mitigation to fuel community meals. We hope to continue developing our impact to have a further reach into the future.

About Just Fare Community Kitchen

Just Fare Community Kitchen, a fiscally sponsored non-profit project of 18 Reasons, contributes to ending food insecurity by making dignified meals to feed the East Bay community. We envision a world where everyone achieves food sovereignty through equitable access to dignified and responsibly sourced food.

Take the Time To

The Story

Since its inception in May of 2020, Just Fare Community Kitchen has delivered over 500,000 responsibly sourced, thoughtfully prepared meals to communities throughout the Bay Area. By partnering with a network of over 40 hyper-local Community Based Organizations, we are able to get our food into the hands of people that traditional aid may not reach.

Food is made using the same standards as our Office Catering and Events menus: prioritizing locally grown, organic ingredients from womxn- and BIPOC-owned, independent farms.

In 2020 and 2021, grants from Alameda County primarily funded Community Kitchen operations. Now, through our Community Impact Program and ongoing fundraising efforts, we are trying to continue this life-sustaining work.

Through collective funding solutions we can secure the future of our Community Kitchen, the many communities it supports, and continue building a food system that is rooted in social justice.
